PICA
Pica is a craving to eat things that are not intended for consumption, such as dirt, rocks, clay, and starch.
Often caused by anemia. May be a result of an evolutionary adaptation that causes abnormal cravings to try to satisfy iron requirements (if I understand correctly, evidence for this is tentative)
Pagophagia
Pagophagia is considered a type of pica, where people have a craving to eat ice. It is very common in our clinic and as a result we often write on charts that "patient complains of pagophagia but denies PICA." This is to distinguish it from geophagia (craving for clay, dirt, chalk, etc.) and amylophagia (craving for starch), which we see less commonly.
